Grupo Alten has been awarded contracts for 2 adjacent projects, Solem I (180 MWp) and Solem II (168 MWp) in the municipality of El Llano, in the state of Aguascalientes, with a combined installed capacity of 348 MWp and an investment of approximately 350 million euros between the two.

Solem I and II will make for the largest photovoltaic solar power project in Latin America with a surface area of more than 1,000 Ha of land. The two projects will also share interconnection infrastructures through a 230 kV line crossing one of the plots.

Following an agreement reached between Grupo Alten and Cubico Sustainable Investments (an investee of the Canadian pension funds Ontario Teachers Pension Plan and PSP) for joint investment in the projects, the financial deal is expected to be closed and the notice to proceed issued for them in the first half of 2017.

The expected PPA’s start dates for both projects are September 2018 and June 2019, respectively. The energy purchase agreements were also signed in January 2017 with the Mexican Federal Electricity Board |CFE.

Grupo Alten began operating in Mexico in mid-2013. The company selected the country as its main area of interest on the American continent due to its excellent solar resources and high potential for growth in its energy sector in general as well as in renewable energies, in particular, following the energy reforms that were announced in 2013, and were successfully completed in 2014 and 2015.

In addition, Grupo Alten also owns a 30 MW project in the state of San Luis Potosí and is developing an extensive portfolio for the development of photovoltaic solar power plants in the state of Aguascalientes and other Mexican states.
